P.B. and J. Ministry
Every Friday at 11:00 AM our group of faithful volunteers gather together in the Fellowship Hall to put together Peanut Butter and Jam sandwiches for Tacoma’s homeless population. With donations of creamy peanut butter, seedless jam, bread and cash from Skyline and the surrounding community they are able to make 500 to 800 sandwiches each week.
When the sandwiches are done they are carefully bagged and placed in plastic containers so that they stay fresh and don’t get squished. In the late afternoon the sandwiches are picked up and taken to the Tacoma Rescue Mission where there is a line waiting for the protein rich goodies. Some of those in line have had a hot meal at the mission and the sandwiches serve as a late night snack to stave off hunger or they are saved for the next day, for others it will be the only meal that they and their children get. It doesn’t matter how the sandwiches are used, the truth is they are meeting a desperate need in our community.
Would you like to help? The weekly sandwich making crew is made up of Skyline attendees as well as concerned community members. If you would like to join us, please feel free to come on any Friday at noon and start creating sandwiches.
